When Glendale was released from prison, he was quickly swept up by old habits and old acquaintances. He started using drugs again and ended up in jail for 30 days. When he released, his first call was to Jera Thompson, KDOC job specialist, who worked with him during his time at HCF. Jera was able to quickly connect him with community resources that could help steer him in the right direction.

Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) Secretary Jeff Zmuda announced today that one staff member at the Topeka Correctional Facility (TCF) died on Saturday, July 25, due to complications from COVID-19. This is the third staff death related to the virus with the first two being at the Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF).

This is the seventh KDOC facility with a confirmed case, with the first cases reported at Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF), Wichita Work Release Facility, Topeka Correctional Facility, Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, El Dorado Correctional Facility and Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

Consistent with Governor Kelly’s Executive Order #20-52 requiring the use of facemasks in public places, beginning July 3rd, anyone entering KDOC buildings (facilities, parole offices, central office) will be required to wear a mask.

As of June 1, 2020, KDHE confirmed the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus at LCF as contained. As a result, the Guardsmen who have supported logistics, food and medical services at the facility concluded their mission on June 4.
