A report recently released by the National Juvenile Defense Center (NJDC) looks at access and quality of juvenile defense in Kansas. The full report, “Limited Justice: An Assessment of Access to and Quality of Counsel in Kansas,” includes findings and recommendations developed through a year-long study of the Kansas juvenile defense system and delinquency courts.

The report is the result of work undertaken by KDOC Juvenile Services and other stakeholders to address issues identified by the Juvenile Justice Workgroup in 2015 and in the Kansas Juvenile Justice Reform Act (SB367). The 2016 legislation cited the need to improve the quality of juvenile defense statewide.
