Staff Development

The Ellsworth Correctional Facility Training Center is located north of ECF on State Street Road. The facility is equipped with three classrooms and one computer lab. All classrooms are furnished with audio/video equipment, as well as Internet access and can accommodate students in numbers from 15-60. The computer lab can accommodate up to 10 students who are able to work independently or in conjunction with an instructor. There is an instructor computer monitor at each work station which allows the students to follow the instructor’s actions during the class.

Several training curriculums are conducted at the ECF Training Center. These include Basic Orientation for all non-uniformed ECF staff and contract staff, Basic Corrections Officer Training, Annual Training for corrections officers, non-uniformed and contract staff, Special Operations and Response Team (SORT), specialized trainings in cooperation with Central Kansas Emergency Preparedness and MCTFT (Multi-Jurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training. The Orientation, Basic, Annual and SORT trainings are designed to meet ACA and NCCHC Standards as well as Internal Management Policies and Procedures requirements for all Kansas Department of Corrections and contract employees. A copy of the training schedules and course content may be requested from the Staff Development office at (785) 472-6271, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m., to 4 p.m. Law enforcement agencies are welcome to send their staff to training sessions free of charge. The following are law enforcement agencies that have utilized the training sessions at ECF:  Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Department, City of Ellsworth Police Department, Saline County Sheriff’s Department and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
