Warden Sam Cline
Sam Cline, Warden

On January 21st the good news was announced that EDCF Warden Ray Roberts is our new Secretary of Corrections. This announcement brought to an end weeks of curious rambling about who would fill our lead role in the KDOC. Secretary Roberts has exceptional credentials that uniquely qualify him for this role. Other changes are likely in coming weeks. The peaceful transition of government is a remarkable feature of our nation that is the envy of many countries around the world. This is one more occasion when we can truly be proud to be Americans, Kansans and employees of the KDOC. The issues we face today remain familiar: fiscal uncertainty, too many inmates and too few beds to name a few. I want to encourage all of you to look toward the future with optimism, we have been successful in these areas in the past and we will continue to find solutions in the future. Mindless worry and pessimism are not constructive to the future that we must vigorously embrace. Secretary Roberts recently commented that we are not so much in for a ‘long run’ rather, our current situation requires a ‘sprint’ that will effect the KDOC facilities, Re-entry and Parole and Central Office. We are called upon to serve as a resource to the entire department in any way we can. That is the tradition of HCF and we will all do our part.
