Former Larned Juvenile Superintendent to head Kansas Juvenile Facility

Corrections Secretary Joe Norwood today announced the appointment of Wendy Leiker as superintendent of the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC).

Leiker will assume her role as superintendent effective September 24. Leiker is returning to the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) in the same role she had held at the Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility (LJCF) until its closure in March 2017.

“Wendy has a strong commitment to juvenile justice in Kansas,” Secretary Norwood said. “Under Wendy’s leadership, KJCC will continue to improve outcomes for our youth and make Kansas safer.”

Leiker began her corrections career at LJCF as a juvenile corrections officer in 2003. She would go on to serve as a disciplinary hearing officer, captain and then deputy superintendent in 2009. Leiker took the helm of LJCF in 2013. Leiker will be leaving her role as the assistant superintendent/chief operating officer at the Larned State Hospital to rejoin the KDOC.

“Working in the juvenile justice field is so rewarding,” Leiker said. “I look forward to working with the staff at KJCC in the important work they do every day to help change juveniles’ lives.”
