Warden Named For Topeka Correctional Facility
Kansas Secretary of Corrections Ray Roberts has selected Hope Cooper as the new warden at the Topeka Correctional Facility, effective Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Cooper joined the Kansas Department of Corrections in 2008 as a Program Consultant in the Community Corrections Department and has been Director of Community Corrections since last year. Previously Ms. Cooper worked as a U. S. Probation Officer for the U. S. District Courts in Topeka, and for Community Solutions, Incorporated, an Adult Day Reporting Center in Topeka.
Cooper began her corrections career with the Excelsior Youth Center in Aurora, Colorado, working with emotionally disturbed adolescent females. The Topeka Correctional Facility is the only KDOC facility that houses female inmates and has a capacity of approximately 700. Ms. Cooper has a master’s degree in Counseling and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice, both from Chadron State College, Chadron, Nebraska.
Acting TCF Warden Keven Pellant was named Deputy Secretary of Community and Field Services earlier this year and she will now operate in that capacity full time in the KDOC Central Office.
