Lab at TCF receives $25,000 grant from Delta Dental

Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation recently awarded the dental lab at Topeka Correctional Facility, a grant for $25,000 for the purchase of equipment and supplies.

The dental lab’s Technician Training Program provides students with both education and hands-on experience in the art and science of denture-making.  The dentures they create are provided to medically-underserved patients of the Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved Safety Net Clinics of Kansas.   The funds provided to TCF have allowed the dental lab to purchase much-needed equipment and supplies that will help broaden the students’ training and increase productivity.

“The Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation is pleased to continue our financial support of the TCF Dental Lab Program,” said Karen Finstad, executive director of the foundation. “TCF continues to work with the KAMU clinics across the state to provide quality, affordable dentures to dental patients. The growth and continuation of this program is paramount to the success for both inmates and safety net patients.”

“The dental lab is such an exciting program because, through the Safety Net Clinics in Kansas, offenders can help provide good quality and affordable dentures to individuals who cannot afford them” said Gloria Geither, director of mentoring & volunteer services for Kansas Department of Corrections.  “Thanks to the generosity of the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation, these female offenders are making a difference in the oral health of Kansans, while learning important skills to help them succeed when they are released. The women are having a personal impact on many lives one smile at a time.”
