KDOC Staff Show Support for Victims and Survivors of Homicide
Employees with the Kansas Department of Corrections read shocking statistics on the Day of Remembrance pertaining to the prevalence of homicide nationwide, knowing that statistics do little to speak to the trauma that individuals and communities experience as a result of such a heinous crime. Contact information for support services was provided and many came to work wearing red and black to show their support for those victims of homicide and their surviving friends and family members.
Although many staff were seen walking the halls dressed to promote awareness of the Day, it proved more difficult to pull the hardworking employees away for a photo. KDOC staff devote themselves daily to support victims and survivors and to provide quality services to offenders with the mission of enhancing the safety of Kansans.
The Office of Victim Services currently provides programming that allows survivors of homicide the opportunity to speak to offenders about the far-reaching impact that this crime has had on their lives.
