What Volunteer Opportunities Are Available?
The Kansas Department of Corrections’ Risk Reduction and Reentry Plan (KOR3P) calls for you!
Your valuable time, talents and skills are in need in KDOC correctional facilities, in parole and in reentry roles to assist offenders who are committed to change. The goal of risk reduction and reentry work is to offer a helping hand to those who are willing to become law-abiding citizens and who are working toward succesfully reintegrating back into society. An important goal of the KOR3P is to address the needs of families, victims and the community in relation to the return of offenders from prison. We accomplish this mission by working with the offender. Some of the areas where a volunteer can assist include:
- Mentoring by being a positive role model for offenders by encouraging the development of better decision-making and problem-solving skills;
- Co-facilitation of classes in cognitive-behavioral restructuring, job readiness, release planning, family reintegration, parenting, money management, tenant responsibility and others;
- Working with case managers as management assistants for certain tasks such as helping to prepare resumes, performing mock interviews and preparing employment and relapse-prevention plans;
- Working with providers to establish protocols for accessing services, establishing referral methods, gathering information about services for case managers and offenders, setting up appointments for a continuum of care and other duties.
