KDOC Secretary Roberts responds to Governor Brownback’s KDOC line item vetoes

by admin last modified Jul 07, 2015 02:22 PM
In response to Governor Brownback’s line item veto of the FY 2015 budget cuts & partial veto of the FY 2014 budget cuts for the Kansas Department of Corrections, Secretary Ray Roberts has released the following statement:

“The Kansas Department of Corrections is thankful and appreciative for the continual support that has been shown by Governor Brownback for the state’s correctional agency and has been demonstrated again with his line item vetoes today, which restores approximately $2.7 million to corrections in the FY 2014 budget and presents the opportunity to rework the FY 2015 budget for corrections.  The Governor has always made public safety and corrections a priority for his administration and, with his veto of almost $3 million in cuts for FY 2014 and over $9 million in cuts approved by the Legislature for FY 2015, has again worked to make the state safer for all Kansans.  I look forward to working with all legislators during the FY 2014 legislative session on an appropriate budget to represent the challenges and dire implications of significant budget cuts to corrections.”
