As facilities are audited and their corresponding audit reports are submitted to the KDOC, the audit report will be posted here in the corresponding facility. Lack of an audit report indicates that an audit has not been completed.

No publisher Kimberly_Marotta 2014-01-15T20:37:29Z File K-9 Unit https://www.doc.ks.gov/facilities/lcf/k-9-unit In 1978, a K-9 Unit was established at the Lansing Correctional Facility based on the Hutchinson Correctional Facility K-9 Unit program. Due to the increased awareness of narcotics trafficking and narcotics related problems within the facility, the focus of the LCF K-9 program was changed in 1994 to preventing/decreasing the flow of narcotics into the facility.

The Lansing Correctional Facility currently has one full-time handler/trainer and two part-time handlers/trainers who work with narcotic detection dogs.

Hutchinson Correctional Facility’s K-9 Unit exists not only for escapes and contraband searches within the prison system but is also available to assist police and sheriff departments within a reasonable proximity of the prison.

To properly utilize the K-9 Unit to its full potential, guidelines have been established to help the dogs succeed in their efforts. However because of the number of individuals involved in an initial search, please adhere to the following points from the beginning of the search if the dog team is to be successful:

  1. Request assistance as soon as possible.
  2. Secure the area from all unnecessary foot or vehicle traffic.
  3. Do not handle or disturb potential scent articles.
