Former Topeka Correctional Facility resident Monica Pyles struggled for 3 years while declining the help from staff within TCF, but a breakthrough opened her eyes and set her sights on working at a coveted Private Industries job. The company started in August of 2021 at TCF and Pyles found her niche making parts of the products with a sewing machine. The company was so pleased with her work and leadership, they hired her straight out of prison when she was paroled in September 2022. She is considered by many as a posterchild for reentry within TCF.

For the 2nd year in a row, more than 30 bands from around the Kansas City region are booked to play on a Thursday night between March and October. It's win-win-win situation as local bands who are looking for a gig, can play before a "captive" audience; the residents are welcome to hear a free concert; and administrators say it all adds to a calmer, safer environment. The redesigned space prioritizes the emotional and developmental needs of children visiting incarcerated parents, emphasizing a family-centered approach in the correctional system.

Aramark Correctional Services is marking the 20th anniversary of its IN2WORK (I2W) program, which provides education and industry certifications to incarcerated individuals. To help celebrate, the IN2WORK residents and Aramark staff at Lansing Correctional Facility created 250 self-stable, breakfast snack packs and donated them to the Ronald McDonald House near Childrens Mercy Hospital in Overland Park.

We are thrilled to celebrate the latest graduation ceremony of the East Campus Recovery Program at Lansing Correctional Facility. During this special event, 42 resilient residents stepped up to receive their certificates of completion. This milestone brings our total to 156 graduates since launching less than two years ago. As the first program of its kind in Kansas, this initiative sets a new standard for our state. By placing a strong emphasis on drug addiction recovery and seamlessly transitioning participants into work release jobs from the minimum-security facility, KDOC is creating a true pathway to successful reentry. We are incredibly proud of these individuals for dedicating themselves to transformation and building a brighter future.

This incredible project marks a major milestone for our vocational track, proving that the skills learned here are built on community, care, and giving back. We are so proud of the hard work and heart these students put into supporting families when they need it most.
