Education
Education services at KJCC are contracted through the Smoky Hill Education Service Center in Salina. Our high school, Lawrence Gardner High School (LGHS), is a fully accredited school and consists of 22 staff, including a full-time administrator/principal, fully licensed teachers, para-educators and office assistants. Our curriculum is computer-based, providing each student an opportunity at credit recovery and an individually designed, self-paced curriculum. The school day is based on a block schedule that is all-inclusive with peer tutoring and mainstreaming opportunities. The curriculum provides diversity for all learners and learning styles and encourages the challenged reader as well as honing the reading skills of the advanced. We work closely with our school psychologist to meet the needs of each student who utilizes an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) to encourage and promote student success. Parents/caregivers are invited to participate in every IEP meeting.
Vocational services are offered through the Washburn Technology Institution in Topeka. Students are able to participate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) classes, electrical, plumbing and construction. We offer valuable life skills and hands-on experience in these areas to provide career opportunities for students when they leave KJCC.
Each year, we take time out to celebrate our graduates with a formal graduation ceremony. Families are invited to attend these events, as well as our annual LGHS Open House.
