Lansing Correctional Facility Escapee Back in Custody

Gary Leslie Furthmyer, who escaped from custody three weeks ago, has been captured in Kansas City, Kansas.

At approximately 2 p.m., today, Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) escapee Gary Leslie Furthmyer, 59, was taken into custody in Kansas City, Kan. Furthmyer was taken to the Wyandotte County Jail where he was positively identified and he will be returned to the LCF this afternoon. Additional details concerning the capture will be released later.

It was three weeks ago today on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at approximately 3 a.m., staff at LCF confirmed that Furthmyer (KDOC #23753) escaped from his minimum-custody job assignment at the facility Steam Plant. Furthmyer was serving a six- to 25-year sentence due to a 1985 Sedgwick County conviction for Indecent Liberties with a Child, and Aggravated Failure to Appear.
