The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) has announced it will explore options for constructing a new facility at the Lansing Correctional Facility site to use in place of the current structures, which were built in the 1860s. The facility has housed offenders since 1863.

KDOC plans to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) which will allow for construction companies to propose building and financing plans for the State to consider.

KDOC Secretary Joe Norwood said the project would take about three years in total to complete. He expects the project to be “budget neutral” with anticipated efficiencies a modern facility will provide.
