Larned Youth Enjoy a 'Total Blackout' for Halloween

by Kim Teegerstrom last modified Jul 07, 2015 02:26 PM
A favorite holiday for kids at any age, Halloween is no exception for youth at Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility (LJCF). For a second year, LJCF's Youth Special Events Committee held a "Total Black Out" event on Halloween eve in the facility's gym.

Event-goers, who wanted to participate, were blindfolded and guided by staff to three stations that had four mystery boxes featuring an unknown substance that the youth could only touch, smell or taste.

One by one, participants reached inside a box with the goal of identifying its contents using only one of their senses. The youth were timed during the event and those from the housing unit with the best times were treated to a movie and treats on Halloween. The facility's Westside School student council and teachers also distributed bags of candy for all youth to enjoy.
