Horse Adoption At HCF 10 18 2024

Hutchinson Correctional Facility's (HCF) Horse and Burro Program recently held its annual Open House and Competitive Bid Auction Weekend. A total of 18 horses were auctioned off as well as selling 13 untouched horses and 10 burros. The weekend is a culmination of months of basic care for the horses (which are captured in the wild from mostly western and northwestern states) to actual training, under the supervision and guidance of professional trainers, correctional staff, and resident trainers in apprenticeship.

Kansas Secretary of Corrections Roger Werholtz today announced that the Department is taking steps to suspend operations at the Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) – South Unit at Osawatomie on February 6, 2009 and the El Dorado Correctional Facility (EDCF) – East Unit at Toronto on February 27, 2009.

Kansas Secretary of Corrections Roger Werholtz said today that steps have already been taken to comply with an Environmental Protection Agency report released today regarding the removal of asbestos during renovation of “E” Dormitory at Topeka Correctional Facility (TCF) in 2005.

Suspending operations at Stockton had previously been scheduled to occur June 30, 2009, but has been advanced in the ongoing effort to reduce the Fiscal Year 2009 budget.
