Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson requested assistance from the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) to review the policies and training procedures related to staff sexual misconduct and cross gender supervision in the Kansas Department of Corrections, and in particular at the Topeka Correctional Facility. The report follows.

Kansas Secretary of Corrections Roger Werholtz today announced that the 176 capacity “B” Housing Unit at Winfield Correctional Facility (WCF) will be taken off-line effective March 7, 2009 in an effort to meet budget reductions for the current fiscal year. WCF is a minimum security facility with three housing units, designated “A”, “B” and “C”.
