In-Person Public Comment Sessions

by CJ Perez last modified Aug 25, 2026 03:36 PM
The Kansas Prison Review Board will conduct in-person public comment sessions to provide victims, victims’ families, public officials, and other interested individuals an opportunity to provide information regarding offenders being considered for parole. Pursuant to Senate Bill 459, Kansas law now provides additional requirements concerning victim notification and public comment sessions. For inmates convicted of an off-grid felony or Class A felony, a public comment session must be held in person unless the victim or victim’s family requests otherwise. Registered victims or family members must receive written notice of the time and place of the session at least one month in advance. If the required notification is not provided, the Board must postpone the parole suitability hearing as provided by law. (Kansas Legislature). The Kansas Prison Review Board will offer in- person public comments sessions in addition to its existing virtual platform for public comments sessions, providing participants with both in-person and remote opportunities to provide comments to the Board. Public comment sessions allow individuals to share relevant information with the Board before a parole decision is made. Comments may include information regarding the impact of the crime, public safety concerns, an inmate’s release, or other matters the commenter believes should be considered. • Date: September 23, 2026 Time: 9: AM to 2PM Location: Docking State Office Building Room #360 • Address: 915 SW Harrison Street, Topeka, Kansas 66612 Individuals attending the session should allow adequate time for building access and any required security procedures. The Kansas Prison Review Board recognizes the importance of providing victims, families, public officials, and members of the public a meaningful opportunity to be heard. Information received through the public comment process will be considered as part of the Board’s review consistent with Kansas law.
